A little something about me...

Jessy, 17 year old girl from Cornwall who likes fashion, topshop, london and exploring new things.

7th April

Sorry for the lack of posts, my life is chaotic at the moment, all i do is revise - I blame A-Levels.
Anyway, here's a mood board which is currently an Fashion inspiration.

Fine Art to Fashion.

Fashion can become so vague it can be influenced by the most peculiar objects. Fashion finds inspiration from fine art, to the movement of cubism, abstract expressionism and pop art. But lets face how can you not, the likes of Andy Warhol, James Reid and iconic paintings such as 'Ophelia' and 'Two Sisters' by Cornelis de vos make it hard not to shape into our own modernized take on these iconic fine art.

Romanticism an era of artistic, literary and intellectual movement, producing some of Europe's most famous artists and writers. Designer, John Galliano romanticism vision blossomed in the fall/winter 1994 and this was pitiful movement as from here on Galliano gained influence. The sweeping dresses combined with the ruffles really captured the Romanticism and created likeness of Beardsleys illustrations for the Aristophanes play, Lysistrata

The play is notable for being an early expose of sexual relations in a male dominated society. John Galliano creates a likeness but instead makes it more powerful towards women - the sheer and the long flowing material portrays a sense of elegance, the ruffles give a look of power. Whilst the eye make-up is dark combined with soft nude lips dramatizes the look and captures the true meaning of the play, Lyisistrata the first encounter of a female dominance.

History of Art in Fashion.
It is undeniable that some of our favourite designers are influenced by major era's in History, take Alexander McQueen - it is clearly evident that he is majorly influenced by the Elizabethan era. But he ensembles grace and elegance with looks that may be dramatic or ones that you could wear to the office, all of which he clearly wants individuals to capture their own unique statement. He completes this with intricate details including high neck ruffled collars and glittering beading as well as pin -sharp tailoring, it can't help but remind you of royalty and Shakespearean romanticism.
The portrait of Queen Elizabeth 1 really defines what you would expect to see at Alexander McQueen, the pale skin, the ruffles, the head dresses. It is truly amazing to see that even after 500 years our greatest designers are still unzipping a whole new world of fashion.

Valentino fall/ summer 2013 consisted on white lace cuffs, a simple black midi dress with lace embroidery to symbolize a white collar - inspired by the painting, 'Two Sisters' by Cornelis de vos, c.1615. During the Netherlands in 17th century, they dressed in black modest outfit and began to extend the use of the white collar which began to fall out fashion in Europe. However in 2013 this became the trend, Valentino modernized and created the whole new look of the 'white collar' and it was truly phenomenal.

Whilst it still retains a sense of modesty it carries an edge of confidence and completely becomes a statement piece.

                                                 Fashion and Andy Warhol

Art and Fashion, they are like bedfellows they go together hand in hand and Andy Warhol defines creativity and vibrant colour. Pop artistic and an illustrator for fashion magazines such as Glamour and Harpers Bazaar, dainty heels and colourful beauty products acted as a catalyst for hi inspiration.

Harperz Bazaar- Andy Warhol illustration, April 1956.

Prada Fall/Spring 2013 inspired by Warhols painting 'Flowers' each outfit really captured its 'ugly pretty' which could be said for many of Warhols pop art, peculiar but still retained a sense of beauty. The show kicked started with a short black dress in stiff satin, a panel print of two flowers stitched to the torso. Each flowers were inspired by Andy Warhol's pop art 'flowers' some of which carried the pop art daisies in red capturing a sixties feel to the collection. The collection made the models ooze with power.

"Live with your times, don't fight against them. You will lose",

"Simplicity creates elegance"... Karl Lagerfeld one of the most iconic fashion designers, artists and photographers and most definitely one of the most inspirational people to me. Powered by creativity and energy he never fails to bring a catwalk to life.
As Lagerfeld is the head designer for Fendi, Chanel and his own brand, he always goes one step further to breathe in new life into the original garments to make them unique. One of my favourite quotes from Karl Lagerfeld is that he said he 'doesn't want to fight modern day technology instead he wants to embrace it and bring it to life in his clothing.'
He finds inspiration in what some people would perceive as the craziest ideas, take Chanel Couture Fall 2012, his cat, choupette. The Siamese Cat influenced Lagerfeld to design a soft but not furry, knitted couture bag.
In the 2012 Paris Fashion Week, the sea infact inspired Karl Lagerfeld's collection. "Nothing is more modern than the oldest shape of the history of the world - not of humans. The shapes of the sea are very modern and very inspiring. The shapes of fishes, they are unbelievably modern". Which is so very true, taking a simple idea and turning into something timeless like the maxi skirt and dresses - flowy, cling free just like the sea. Beautiful and full of life.

How about recently at Paris Fashion Week 2014, when Chanel turned itself into a giant supermarket.Filled with endless rows of Chanel- branded pasta, cheeses, sauces, detergents (or the 'coco -flakes) and other daily life products created solely for the occasion. The words, daily life sum up the show and inspiration of Chanel winter Fall 2014. The models presented the new craze of over sized tweed jackets worn over shiny pencil thick trousers completed with flashy trainers. For me the trainers spoke volumes for the show, trainers are a part of everyday life but Lagerfeld is modernizing them to make them more grown up. He has become observant and notices that the trainer or now trainer boots will make everybody feel the same but still retain that sense of elegance and beauty. Karl Lagerfeld describes Chanel as insta fashion which is just amazing, he is keeping a sense of a fashion community - no matter where you are or what your class is you are able to comment, watch and share.
Karl Lagerfeld to me is a true inspiration to fashion.

A new discovery.

Hi lovelies, hope you all had a spectacular Christmas and New Year. 2015 holds a lot of opportunities for me and it is very exciting indeed.
Anyway, enough babbling on today I discovered a fantastic up and coming magazine called, Mess. A distinctive magazine, involving streamlined fashion and culture with involvement from artistic upcoming photographers, writers and stylists. All this makes the magazine not only exciting but fresh, it is bringing something new which holds something so beautiful - unzipping a whole new world of fashion.
The editorials of the magazine are brilliant, each article becomes undeniably higher quality, bringing something more quirky and fresh. I can only describe Mess magazine as progressive but i find that intriguing and is why i have taken such a liking to it.
Already the magazine has featured iconic designers such as, Alexandra McQueen, Alexandra Wang and Kenzo - showing the recognition for Mess magazine - unzipping a whole new world of fashion and culture is truly exciting for all readers. I am already hooked!

Myla dabelsio, size 10 and considered a plus size model?

Sorry, i haven't spoke in a while my life is a manic; A-level is taking over my life...

I type, Myla Dablesio onto Google and related images come up with 'plus size models'? Now the new face of Calvin Klein has become the center of attention of publicity due to her size - in matter of fact she is a size 10. Calvin Klein has been considered to be 'breaking the boundaries' due to the 'size' of their new face for their campaign - it is ludicrous that a size 10 is considered plus size; her height is 5'11 therefore it is all proportional.
Yes, it can be considered she is 'bigger' than any other models that has worked for Calvin Klein but time after time the Fashion Industry is slated due to their promotion of 'skinny girls'; yet when an average sized women stars in a high end designer there becomes an uproar that she is considered, 'too big'. It is like they are conforming to their own stereotypes of only 'skinny girls should feature in the modelling industry'.
Myla Dablesio explains how she is definitely a bigger girl which has starred in Calvin Klein which is quite intimidating yet the pressure of conforming to the typical size of a model was too much. Quite frankly the size of a women should all be natural to them, they should be proportionate and Myla Dablesio, her face is striking and she is quirky and original - she fits in very well.

18th September

Hi guys, I appologise for the lack of posts lately - sixth form has been taking over my life *shock*. So recently it was London Fashion Week and The Burberry Prorsum highlighted FW it was a beautiful show, Christopher Bailey took the plunged and paired reality with pure romanticism; combining Birkenstock- sandals with box- like denim jackets in the colour with a soft lilac suede creating an explosion of colour.
The look for SS15 was not the traditional trench coat but in fact a denim trench coat; think 80's subculture teamed with PVC leather lapels and a sheer tulle belt worn over transparent nude chiffon. The girls wore everything to fluffy fur coats to suede jackets with a slick vinyl collar. It captured the artisan approach which burberry had to offer; the make up was beautifully simple the models had a soft look combining with a touch of red lipstick creating the pure romanticism.

The Burberry show took place at Kensington Gardens; feeling secluded and removed from reality being able to soak up everything Burberry has to offer and really being able to be engrossed into the beautiful show which holds in front of you.
